Can I craft my own affirmation or phrase to use as my Mantra for the practicum?

Support Team Updated by Support Team

Incorporating a Mantra into your practicum is a necessity. We advise adopting a concise, traditional Mantra from the program. This ensures that the evaluator can clearly identify your adherence to the criteria.

Several students have inquired about the possibility of formulating their own affirmation or phrase as an alternative to a traditional Mantra. We understand that the Sanskrit language or classical Mantras might not resonate with everyone. Thus, you're welcome to introduce a personal affirmation, word, or phrase. If you choose this route, kindly adhere to the following stipulations:

  1. Your chosen affirmation or phrase should be concise, ideally not exceeding 3 or 4 words, to ensure easy retention and repetition.
  2. Introduce your word or phrase akin to a Mantra: explain its significance relative to the class theme, repeat it multiple times, and guide students on its utilization during the session (as demonstrated by Mark in the related video segment).
  3. Refrain from labelling your custom phrase as a "Mantra" if it deviates from traditional Mantras. The term "Mantra" has a unique and sacred connotation within Yoga and shouldn't be misused.
