A frequent query students have during the practicum planning phase is whether they can blend mantra and meditation. The overlap between the two can indeed create some ambiguity, especially since certain meditation techniques incorporate the use of mantras. For instance, practices like the Calm/Smile meditation utilize mantra repetition to guide the mind into a focused and tranquil state. Opting for a meditation embedded with a mantra, such as the Calm/Smile method, will meet the meditation criterion of the practicum.

However, even if you decide on a meditation that integrates a mantra, it's essential to also incorporate a distinct mantra from the mantra/chanting portion of the course. Referencing the chanting section will offer a variety of suitable mantras for your practicum session. You can choose to either recite or chant the mantra with your students. Providing an explanation of the mantra's meaning and repeating it multiple times (around 3-5 repetitions) can be beneficial. If the idea of incorporating a mantra feels daunting, consider using a basic mantra like "OM" at the beginning or conclusion of your session.

A helpful approach for your practicum is to pick an element or practice corresponding to its specific section in the course. This means selecting a mantra from the chanting segment, a meditation from its respective section, a pranayama technique from the pranayama module, and so forth. Embracing simplicity and clarity is pivotal for your practicum. As you venture into your teaching journey post-graduation, you might explore innovative ways to amalgamate various practices.
